Ponderosa High School Campus Security

The Safety and Security Department's mission is to protect the educational environment in Douglas County Schools.

We operate under three major areas of service: Student, Staff, and Visitor Protection; Emergency Preparedness; and Planning and Property Protection. Ponderosa High School is staffed with Campus Security Specialists that work directly with School Administration and the District Safety and Security Department.

Hours-

Campus Security Specialists are on-site during school hours throughout the academic school year. After-hour events will also be manned to include weekends.

Building Access-

Access to Ponderosa High School building and athletic fields is restricted to Douglas County School District employees, currently enrolled students, and approved visitors. All visitors are required to check-in (with valid government/state-issued ID) at the security kiosk prior to continuing to any other part of the property. The main entrance is located on the south side of the building (to the right of the flagpole and marked by A1 above the main doors).

Parking

Parking Permit Hang Tags – All Staff and Student vehicles parked on PHS property must have a valid current school year and employee parking permit hangtag displayed in the front vehicle windshield.

Safety – A safe speed of 10 mph is the maximum on PHS property. Use of the crosswalks is mandatory for students and faculty crossing to and from the parking lots to sidewalks. Vehicle access is restricted to the roadways and parking spaces; driving or parking on other areas (i.e. grass, rocks, sidewalk…) is prohibited.

Written Citation– Citations are covered in the PHS Parking Policies and Procedures. Written citations will include fees and possibly wheel boot placement. Repeated parking lot infractions will be referred to PHS Administration and or school resource officer for the recommended appropriate action.

Lost and Found

Items left on PHS property are brought to the security kiosk and or main office. There is a Lost and Found bin located in the Commons/Cafeteria near the small stage area. All items not claimed will be donated at the end of each semester to a local charity.

After School Hours -

Ponderosa High School ends the academic school day at 2:55 pm. Students involved in SUPERVISED clubs, sports, and academics may remain on school property until the completion of their activity. Loitering on school property is prohibited and violators will be issued a written citation and referred to the appropriate administrator and or Douglas County Sheriff Department.

NOTICE OF DESTRUCTION OF SPECIAL EDUCATION RECORDS

Special Education records which have been collected by Douglas County School District related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of special education in the district, must be maintained under state and federal laws for the period of five (5) years after special education services have ended for the student. Special education services end when the student is no longer eligible for services, graduates, or completes his/her educational program at age 21, or moves from the district. This notification is to inform parents/guardians and former students of Douglas County School District's intent to destroy the special education records of students who exited special education services as of June 30, 2016. These records will be destroyed in accordance with state law unless the parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student notifies the school district otherwise. After five years, the records are no longer useful to the district, but may be useful to the parent/guardian or former student in applying for social security benefits, rehabilitation services, college entrance, etc. The parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student may request a copy of the records by requesting the records at this link ( Douglas County School District Transcripts and Records Requests ).
